There are various treatment options for ADHD. Often referred to as alternative treatments, you can choose to treat your child's disorder with any of the following: diet therapy, behavioral therapy, herbal remedy, flower remedy, acupuncture, and many others.

Many of the alternative forms of ADHD treatments have been proven effective. As always, the effects go on a case by case basis. What may be effective for one may not be thus for another. So choose the best treatment suited for your child's specific condition.

Homeopathic remedy and diet therapy are quite controversial treatments. Doctors are divided as to whether these treatments are beneficial to patients. Homeopathy is an all-natural approach to the condition. However some doubt its efficacy since most of the natural ingredients they say are, diluted in water. Hence, the percentage of natural elements actually is quite small and would have little effect on ADHD.

It is well documented however that homeopathic treatments have proven beneficial to many ADHD patients. These are backed up by laboratory and clinical testing. Furthermore, it has been observed that among the ingredients, those found to produce more positive results are Hyoscyamus niger, Stramonium, and Cina. If you go with homeopathy, know and observe which among these will work well on your child.

A well-known alternative medicine, Hyoscyamus niger is very much used for treating ADHD children that show very short attention span. It helps limit and control sudden impulses, uncontrolled behavior, and disruptive behavior.

Stramonium is best used on children with ADHD that show extreme irritability. It is used to treat and control constant and sudden mood swings. Once given this ingredient, those people who suffer from post-traumatic stress and irrational fears show good and continued signs of improvement.

Cina, is otherwise known as octopus cactus. This is a cactus normally found in the city of Mexico. Cina has been popularly used to treat various disorders which include Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Those who start to show signs of physical aggression in increasing intensity are often given this ingredient. Results show that it is very much effective in treating ADHD patients.

Besides homeopathy treatments, another alternative form of treatment would be diet therapy. It's proven to produce positive effects on ADHD children. This therapy is based on a viewpoint that certain things in one's diet produce or aggravate ADHD symptoms. In this therapy, children who suffer from ADHD are advised to stay away from high sugar or high glucose food and drink as it is commonly observed that high doses of sugar aggravate or worsen ADHD symptoms. On the other hand, children are recommended to have high Omega 3 intake as well as essential fatty acids.

It can be quite difficult to decide which alternative treatment would be best for your child. As with any types of medication, effects and benefits vary among patients. Be fully informed about your options. Also, observe your child closely. If you see no effects, switch to another treatment. If you see lots of improvement, stick with that particular treatment.
